Introduction to BRC global standards
BRC is the British Retail Consortium (BRC). Littlewood's, Safeway, Waitrose, Somerfield, Co-operative Society, Spar and other retailers. In the 1990s, in order to gain more benefits, retailers commissioned suppliers to process their own brand products, which also brought product brand risks to retailers, such as product quality and safety, product sales, and British food laws and regulations. In order to address the risk of product brand and the food Safety Act 1990, retailers began to regulate their OEM suppliers. Up to now, many retailers still follow the original management style, retailers do not regularly visit and evaluate suppliers. However, the following problem is how to solve the management cost of both retailers and suppliers as well as management methods and management standards. Therefore, in 1998, BRC organization began to prepare BRC technology and regulations for retailers' private brand food suppliers (BRC food standards) and formally promulgated in 1998. As of now, food Version 5 will be implemented from July 1, 2008.
The purpose of the association is to provide a platform for cooperation in non-competitive areas, so as to solve some of the common concerns of the world, such as product safety issues, unresolved gm issues and trade disputes. At the same time, a large number of retailers can put forward the topics that retailers care about to the government, the public and suppliers, so as to solve some trade problems. For technical and quality management, they can work together to study and promulgate requirements and standards for products.

BRC recognition in the market
In May 2000, quality and Regulatory directors from Global retailers established the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). GFSI is a global food safety initiative. Its main objective is to strengthen global food safety, establish necessary food safety plans, improve efficiency through the food supply chain, etc. It mainly applies to the transaction process between suppliers and retailers, which is a proof of suppliers' compliance with food safety standards. The group checks existing food safety standards using standards it approves. In addition to inspections, GFSI also acts as an early warning, screening and releasing information in a timely manner when food safety problems occur. The early warning system will provide suppliers and retailers with the latest information on food safety incidents, problems and other relevant aspects. At present, the certification standards recognized by the organization are: BRC, IFS, SQF, HACCP RvA and other four system standards. Of the four accepted standards, BRC, IFS are the most easily accepted by these retailers. In these two standards also cover the retailer's requirements for product quality, which has an obvious gap with the other two standards.
At the same time, some large international companies are increasingly accepting the BRC's role. They often use BRC standards to manage suppliers as well.
